Wuhan
Wuhan is a generic name, referring to the three linked mid-Yangtze River cities of Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang.
Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province, is the largest city in Central China. It subtropical climate is characterized by humid weather and a monsoon season. Located at the junction of the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and the Yangtze River waterway, Wuhan has always been known as the “Thoroughfare of Nine Provinces. ” Covering an area of 8, 410 square kilometres the City of Wuhan has a population of 7.4 million.
Wuhan has a long history and rich cultural heritage. Archaeological findings indicate that Panlong, a city north of Wuhan, dates back more than 3,500 years, to the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 BC). [Wuhan is also home to Cha Culture, which has a history of over 2,500 years. The Yellow Crane Tower it one of three famous historical towers south of the Yangtze River (the other two being Yueyang Tower in Hunan Province and the Prince Teng Tower in Jiangxi Province). East Lake is a state-recognized scenic spot loved for its natural beauty. And the Guiyuan Buddhist Temple is known as “the ancient temple at the Buddhist centre. ” It is also the most convenient base from which to explore the Three Gorges and other famous prime sights in Central China. The city has a solid industrial foundation, with metallurgy, machinery, light industry, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, electronics and building materials is its pillar industries. Some promising high-tech sectors are rising, including fiber optics, biological engineering, lasers, microelectronics, and new materials.

Hubei Province
Situated in the middle reaches of the Changjiang River(also called Yangtze River) and north of Dongting Lake, Hubei Province borders on Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Shaanxi Provinces and Chongqing Municipality.
Hubei Province, a part of the middle basin of the Changjiang River, is surrounded by mountains on three sides. Mountainous areas and hilly lands make up 70% of its total land.

Jingjiang River Dyke
Located in Jingzhou City on the northern bank of the Jingjiang River, the Dyke was first built in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. With a total length of 182.35 kilometers, the Dyke starts at Zaolingang in Jingzhou region and ends in southern Jianli County.
Yangtze River Basin
Rising in the Tanggula Mountains in west-central China, the Yangtze River flows southeast before turning northeast and then generally east across south-central and east-central China to the East China Sea near Shanghai. It is the world’s third longest river, 6,300 km long.
Several large cities, including Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, and Chongqing, lie in the river’s basin, which is known as the granary of China. Large ships can sail to Wuhan, and smaller vessels can reach Yichang; it becomes harder to navigate above Yichang because of the gorges that occur between Chongqing and Yichang. Work on the Three Gorges Dam project was inaugurated in 1993; the dam was completed in 2006. Located west of Yichang, it will enable freighters to navigate 2,250 km inland from the East China Sea to Chongqing.

Yichang, which has a long history, is one of the key tourism cities in China. Yichang was approved as an open city along the Yangtze River by the State Council in 1994.
